I attended the opening of “Carpetized!” at the Salsali Private Museum at Alserkal tonight, where Hossein Rezvani’s works were on display in collaboration with carpet gallery Iwan Maktabi. While I’m more of a traditional carpet lover, I appreciated the beautiful design and intricacy of Rezvani’s carpets, especially the works where you could see pieces of silk shining above the main body of wool. We spoke briefly to him about what he’s inspired by (everything), and where his carpets are made (Isfahan, Iran). He also specified that although his works are contemporary, it’s important to him for them to still be known as Iranian, so there are hints of traditional design in his works. More pics below!
